DEMOCRACY
CONCERNS
- Some members were concerned that there was not enough democratic involvement in making the decisions for the land swap and the potentials for the Horse Farm development. It seemed as though these matters were all handled behind closed doors and without informing the public and the student body or asking for their input. They wanted more transparency from the UL administration.
- The "equal value" of the two properties was questioned by many who attended the meeting, including local realtors.
ACTION PLAN
- To have transparency in all interactions and transactions regarding this land swap and all future major university property decisions and to get more student involvement in more democratic decision-making processes that affect the university.
- To increase public awareness of the land swap and its implications. To strive for concensus decision-making in this deal.
- To obtain air-time on morning news shows and radio interviews. To form a permanent citizen Watch Group to alert the public of community developments that would affect the citizens of Acadiana.
- To form a permanent student Watch Group to make the student body more involved in campus development decisions.
